Continuing on with a popular 30-year tradition, Dancing in the Streets brings out nearly 400 people. Cindi Malin, event coordinator said “We have a great time and it happens twice a year. This year, July 31 and August 28, 2014.”

Jim Baumann, executive director of the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce, said the event encompasses the businesses and the community and it shows the fun that Boyne City likes to have. “It is something that is done by a handful of businesses in that neighborhood,” he said.  “It is two hours of fun, food and celebration, and there actually IS dancing in the streets.”

Local corn is grilled and Lake Street Market cooks hot dogs, owner Chris Meyer said Dancin’ in the Streets is a way for  businesses to show their appreciation. “We believe it’s a community thing and it’s a part of the SOBO district,” he said. “It’s a way to say thank you from the stores to the people who live here year-round.”

This year’s Street Beats is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on July 31 and August 28 at the 300 block of South Lake Street. For more information or to donate call Cindi Malin at 231-582-0526.
