Cycling

For all ages and skill levels, the Boyne City area is a great place for cycling. A favorite ride takes you from downtown Boyne City to the Ironton Ferry along beautiful Lake Charlevoix. This 20-mile round trip ride is a great family outing. For mountain bikers, give the trail at Avalanche Park in Boyne City a try. It will test your fitness and skill but it offers a great reward at the top: one of the most spectacular views in all of northern Michigan.  New trails will soon be built to add even more reason for bikers to visit.  Just six miles away Boyne Mountain has some spectacular trails to ride.

The calendar is also full of organized rides. Here is a summary of some of the annual events:

The Michigan Mountain Mayhem (MMM) is a series of cycling events held in Northern Michigan.  Although they do offer shorter routes so most everyone can enjoy them, any of the three will likely be the hardest ride you ever attempt. They include the Spring Classic – third Saturday in June, 2016, Beat The Heat Tour, the first Saturday in August, and the Gravel Grinder, the first Saturday in October.

The Annual Charlevoix/Emmet County Pink Ribbon Ride
Held in June of each year raises money to support The Circle of Strength through Charlevoix Area Hospital and the Kathleen Jontz Breast Health Fund through Northern Michigan Regional Hospital. Both these organizations provide mammograms, ultrasounds, MRIs and biopsies locally. To date, nearly $180,000 has been donated. Look for details for 2013.

Boyne City Triathlon Held the Saturday of Labor Day, the race starts at Peninsula Beach Park and heads to the other end of Lake Charlevoix.  Swim in the crystal clear waters of Lake Charlevoix and bike through the scenic countryside, and run through downtown Boyne City at this incredible event.
